We love having churches, businesses, youth groups, and small groups partner with us for mission trips. While you won’t solve material poverty in your short trip, your presence, fellowship, and energy support our long-term efforts of holistic community development. It’s tough work but your team’s willingness to humbly serve as needed will bolster the community and our staff. We are also excited to show you how God is moving in the local church and the richness of the faith of the local believers.
While on the ground, teams usually spend one to two weeks in Uganda or Kenya participating in some of the following activities:
- Helping the national staff with programs
- Engaging and fellowshipping with the community
- Going on home visits and praying with the community
- Supporting the local church’s children and youth ministry
- Participating in our sports ministry and outreach
- Conducting medical missions and health education
- Discipling the local believers and children
- Supporting teaching and training as requested
We allow you to design the dates of your trip based on the availability of your team members. Whether it is the summer, spring break, or winter break, we will work with you to make this a life-changing experience for all. There may not be a big project for you to participate in depending on your trip dates; if you wish to do something more specific and targeted, please come during our kid’s or medical camp.
Poverty is complex; it is a social, spiritual, material, and personal problem. You won’t solve it on a group trip but don’t be discouraged! Your fellowship, energy, and encouragement are important in supporting the staff in their long-term efforts. Poverty alleviation is tough work and we need your support! We also have seen how Jesus uses group trips to change lives by getting volunteers out of their comfort zones, focusing them on Christ, and allowing Him to give you a new heart. Our prayer is that by the end of the trip your team would understand we are all poor and broken, just in different ways, and that your group would engage in long-term outeach efforts either local or aboard using what they learned on the trip.
We welcome all volunteer ages five and older to come! We try to make the cost of our trips as reasonable as possible. There are two fees: an administration fee; and a mission fee payable to Empower a Child based on the ages of those serving. The mission fee covers all the basic things you will need on the ground including housing, food, and required transport. The application fee is due to the U.S. office two weeks after your application is approved. The mission fees are due to the U.S. office at least 45 days prior to arrival in Africa. If this trip is God’s will then He will provide you with the necessary funding. Click here for some helpful fundraising ideas.
